[Bug 211348] New: Tango icon theme on yast2
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211348 Summary: Tango icon theme on yast2 Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin.schlander@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com YaST2 now looks horrible with Tango-icons. This seems like a strange decision since most SUSE users use KDE and tango is not the default icon theme for KDE (thank god). Please revert back to the previous icons - or perhaps look into doing a special theme-package for it - like with OOo - depending on the selected DE., you'd think that the availability of yast-gtk would be enough.. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The 10.1 icons were done by different designers and with new designers - which we need for new icons -, we lose consistency. A special theme package would not help much since it would not have all needed icons if we add more... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

We? Who is 'we'? The openSUSE-community? Is this something like we decided to use rug/ZEN etc in 10.1? Dumping AppArmor in a terrible way into YaST breaking it's appearance? Using update-keys (noob users think they have to register like MS)? The community spends time keeping Wiki up to date and usefull, we spend time with that (you know what we think) ZEN-system in 10.1, we keep installling buggy versions for bugtracing and keep fixing out machines if the alpha downs them, we spend ALSO a lot of time for openSUSE. And now we gonna use themes for the enterprise that pays 'only' money (to Novell)? I really disagree. When i heard of SUSE that would turn to Gnome instead of the SUSE-way of KDE-being (little bit) I was confused but Novell told us: No, KDE will be supported also, don't worry. Now we are some years further and we get Gnome-stuff into KDE and 'there is nothing 'we' (whoever that may be) can do about it). This is not what SUSE it worth, this is what we were afraid off when Novell bought SUSE. First step (using Novell-logo anywhere) was a mistake and Novell took it back, but now it seems that we will get Novelled/Gnomed in a slow way. AJ, you are great and a warmmhuman. But please get your fist on the table from Novell. Opening this again as a bug, reporting to the mailinglist and the community will think off this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211348 aj@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|REOPENED |RESOLVED Resolution| |FIXED ------- Comment #4 from aj@novell.com 2006-10-18 05:54 MST ------- I just send this to the mailing list. We've gone back for now to the crystal icons so this is fixed for beta1. reading the discussions on this mailing list about the switch of the YaST2 icon theme and gathering some more information that I was not aware at when I made the decision, I'm suggesting the following plan: * Go back for 10.2 to the crystal icon set for YaST (the crystal icons were used in 10.1 and earlier) * For openSUSE 10.3: - figure out which icons are needed - take care that we have a complete set of tango icons for yast2 (there are still some missing which I didn't know before making the decision) - use consistent names for icons so that we can easily switch between themes. - find volunteers to take care of new crystal icons for yast2 - consolidate all YaST icons in one central place (currently *most* are in the theme package but not all) so that we can switch between icon sets - discuss and decide which icon set to use for YaST for the following situations: * during installation * with GNOME as default desktop * with KDE as default desktop - discuss and decide whether to change the icon set for KDE (and to which icon set) Would this plan be ok? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211348 ------- Comment #5 from martin.schlander@gmail.com 2006-10-18 07:04 MST ------- Sounds like a fully acceptable plan to me. A few points though. If 10.3 won't have KDE4, at least KDE4 will definitely be around for 10.3+1 (11.0). Which means we'll have Oxygen icons then. I hear rumours that the main Oxygen guy is on the Novell payroll. Maybe we should think even a step further ahead than 10.3. And I guess it's not even entirely impossible that KDE4 can be out in time for 10.3, if we continue the 8 month release cycle. KDE4 and Oxygen should definitely be taken under consideration with regards to those plans. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
