[Bug 447059] New: kiwi: get rid of partition boundaries
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447059 Summary: kiwi: get rid of partition boundaries Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: System Imaging AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: ms@novell.com QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: --- Hi, one big feature I would like to implement next year is the possibility to use the logival volume manager on top of one Linux LVM partition spanning the entire disk. This will allow real persistent device names as well as a great flexibility in setting up volumes and filesystems after initial deployment. Especially the last point is important for OEM vendors As this is a big change I will setup a branch for kiwi for this implementation as soon as I'll find the time for it. * I'm writing to you to get feedback what you think of that idea if you see problems or if you have related cool ideas according to this one :-) * One specific question goes to Alex. Alex do you know whether our mkinitrd supports root over lvm and if yes is there anything special required for it to boot up ? Normally a vgscan --mknodes is enough to reactivate the volume group on boot -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sure it does. LVM is fully root supported in SLES, so it has to. If you call mkinitrd with the LVM correctly set up, you shouldn't encounter any problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
