Removed the mediawiki installation (it is just a test setup), and tried a fresh install. Upon running the installation wizard, when I try to continue from the Language page (first setup step), apache throws a segfault. Versions running now: libapr-util1-1.3.9-13.7.i586 apache2-mod_php5-5.3.8-3.2.i586 Additional versions tried: libapr-util1-1.3.12-25.3.i586 apache2-mod_php5-5.3.8-111.1.i586 (Tried each of these additional versions individually and together and got the segfault in all three tests).
