[Bug 214904] New: YAST - Software Control - Add Software - failure to install from local source AND on line source
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214904 Summary: YAST - Software Control - Add Software - failure to install from local source AND on line source Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I added a CLAMAV and tivirus program via software management. Because of new version information the on line update source was invoked with a new type error response. Screen image attached as well Error Curl error for: http://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/suse/update/10.1/rpm/i586/clamav-0.88.5-0...: Error code: Unrecognized error Error message: Empty reply from server unquote It could be that the program is available from the mirror, however the definition is probably not distributed...just a guess or it may just be another bug with on line update. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214904 ------- Comment #4 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2006-10-26 22:13 MST ------- ALL these problems with online update are dependant on how busy the LAN is and how busy the mirror is. I tried the exact same installation at an off peak time and was successful and I changed nothing. I submitted a long comment on the problems of online update in another bug. There are many constraints placed upon online update - see attached that should not be there and re-evaluated. We should rely on the comms protocol to administer retry/redundancy - this issue is only going to get worse as more users start using the product and mirrors and receiving LAN become more busy. The problem that we need to wait untill the mirror is not busy and also LAN traffic is not busy needs to be resolved and the ZEN online updates value needs to be re-assessed. I have compressed only the reliant log files I hope and they are attached. Solution to ALL these online update problems is to perform them when your mirror is not to busy and local LAN traffic is at a minimum. Bug closed and hopefully further discussion with QA will result Many thanks -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

There are major issue facing all ISP's in .AU and their ear only basically 3 real ones. The majority of the rest of the ISP's are partitions of the below trace routes. You can see that for a large Island. We have to get out of our own cuntry to just joi the overall net and this mean a grate deal of comms redundancy, implanted in each, are places to the max. Per comms Pipe the number of packet loss for what ever reason is very hight. http://private.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert.ch?token=plumisland&ip=www.pacific.net.au http://private.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert.ch?token=plumisland&ip=www.optusnet.com.au http://private.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert.ch?token=plumisland&ip=www.tpg.com.au http://private.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert.ch?token=plumisland&ip=www.bigpond.net I have just upgraded my WAN speed of 24000k/1000k and I have not had one issue with software redundancies sever the connections before halting retry issues. The major issue with this fault was my PC was making a decision to drop a download based on a packet loss/retry that was far below that of the ISP. This is more than frustration and in truthfunless a download received where YAST redundancies times out before the ISP sent a 'connection was reset/closed - try again" before either mirror had initiated sick a NOACK/TERM/SYN/ACK was far from acceptable. As I have said I am fine now, the question still remains on what basis does an online download issue a retry/abort sever the comms line before the server has issued such a basic lost line message. Online update should NOT have its own private tolerances/retry that initiate before the server has issues such a command. these issues are more exacerbated for someone with dial up. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
