https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=886906 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=886906#c0 Summary: [User Interface] YaST2 Has More Popup Windows Than Needed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: yast2-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: Antoine.Saroufim@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 YaST2 has too many popup windows. Most modern desktop environments that have control centers (XFCE, GNOME, KDE) don't employ more than one window. When switching from one module to the other, the user keeps working on the same window. YaST2 on the other hand pops up a new window every time the user clicks on a module. This is unneeded, confusing, and uncommon. A more typical approach with less need for window management and navigation may be more appropriate. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open YaST2 2.Select Any Module 3.Notice that you have 2 (or more) windows Actual Results: The user might end up with several windows Expected Results: Only one window should remain in view. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From my POV, this should be done per module by locks: If there is a potential of breaking configuration by modifying it using several instances of the same Yast module twice, Yast should tell the user that a.) The same Yast module is already running and tell them to close it b.) The same Yast module is already running and whether they really want to continue (might make sense if the subsequent run is, e.g., for read-only access)
All in all, this is a feature request and if you really want it, I suggest using https://features.opensuse.org/ for creating new feature request. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
