[Bug 347190] New: PCM65 Ehternet settings lost
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=347190 Summary: PCM65 Ehternet settings lost Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jsole125@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer At every start up the ethernet settings are lost and it's found a new ethernet card by yast. The prior has lost the driver. The card is MCP65 running in a laptop HP dv9660. After setting up the net card with yast, in order to get it up I have to do a network restart, otherwise it doesn't work. The settings should not have to use network restart and they should keep in the system through different start-ups. I would say, that this is a hardware issue or maybe a issue in the BIOS. I never saw things like this on our forcedeth HW. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think MS is simple ignoring the MAC address and identify he hardware by PCI address. You can try to create a script, that set the hardware address to the previous value e.g. with ifconfig eth0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ifup eth0 (maybe it need to be eth1) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please complain to your hardware vendor. Switching to a random MAC. in your /var/log/boot.msg or /var/log/messages This would indicate that your HW vendor did assign a wrong MAC address to your device (e.g with set bit 0 in the first MAC address byte, which indicates a multicast address, which is not for use as HW MAC addresses). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
