[Bug 967206] New: Upgrade from 13.2 - need to change to persistent interface names after the upgrade has completed
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=967206 Bug ID: 967206 Summary: Upgrade from 13.2 - need to change to persistent interface names after the upgrade has completed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Release Notes Assignee: ke@suse.com Reporter: donald@curtisliberty.de QA Contact: coolo@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- The Leap 42.1 Release Notes mention that an upgrade from 13.2 needs to prevent the rename from (13.2) "predictable network interface names" to (Leap 42.1) "persistent interface names". (Bug 953769) There is however no note mentioning that after the upgrade has completed it is advisable to use the Leap 42.1 default of "persistent interface names". (/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules should be removed.) Additionally, after creating the new ifcfg files, the directory /etc/sysconfig/network/ needs to be checked for any 13.2 ifcfg files needing removal such as "ifcfg-enp2s0". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=967206 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=967206#c2 --- Comment #2 from Donald Curtis <donald@curtisliberty.de> --- Stefan, only that the default for Leap 42.1 is to use "persistent interface names"; which will happen with an install but as the Release Notes mention is not recommended for an upgrade from 13.2. The workaround needed for an upgrade from 13.2 is only needed after the initial reboot in the upgrade procedure to ensure that network connectivity (Network Manager WiFi passwords) will happen as expected and therefore the upgrade procedure can complete successfully, including any network activity it requires during the initial reboot. Once the upgrade has completed, I can see no advantage in continuing to use the 13.2 "predictable network interface names", and indeed can only suspect that other adverse effects will occur as Leap 42.1 progresses if the interface names are not changed to the default Leap 42.1 style. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
