[Bug 711731] New: cups doesn't print colors with gutenprint stp-bjc-i850
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711731 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711731#c0 Summary: cups doesn't print colors with gutenprint stp-bjc-i850 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: batpul@gmail.com QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686 on x86_64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 Printing doesn't give any colors on a color printer with cups and driver gutenprint stp-bjc-i850 for a Canon i850 color inkjet. For instance when printing an image with xv I get a grayscale image in poor quality. Printing a PDF with acroread turns colors into weakly visible grayscale. When printing a PDF with evince then colors are white. This problem has arisen after upgrading from opensuse 11.3 to 11.4. Colors never gave problems on previous opensuse versions. I tried tweaking some of the options in the yast2 driver options window, but no luck. Also tweaking some of the color options in acroread didn't help. It is Ghostscript plus the printer driver, see http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts_printing When you change the Gutenprint version (opensuse 11.3 has gutenprint-5.2.4 opensuse 11.4 has gutenprint-5.2.6) you may need to set up the print queue anew. During gutenprint package upgrade it runs /usr/sbin/cups-genppdupdate to update Gutenprint PPD files in /etc/cups/ppd/ (if such PPD files exist) but there is no guarantee. There is bug #681071 ghostscript: cups device results wrong colors for embedded images for some color spaces e.g. CMY (but is o.k. for RGB and CMYK) But this bug was never reported for the Gutenprint driver and it should be already fixed by a Ghostscript update. Is your Ghostscript up to date, i.e. does rpm -q --changelog ghostscript-library | head show you this RPM changelog entry: - gs.svn_diff-c_12005.diff fixes http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691760 which is the upstream bug for bnc#681071. If not, update Ghostscript. If your Ghostscript is up to date: Does it work when you downgrade Gutenprint to the version in opensuse 11.3 - i.e. when you install the gutenprint-5.2.4 package for opensuse 11.3 into your opensuse 11.4 system? After downgrade set up the print queue anew. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711731 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711731#c2 --- Comment #2 from Bat Pul <batpul@gmail.com> 2011-08-11 10:45:37 UTC --- Let me clarify "upgrade": I did a fresh install of 11.4. So I recreated the print queue anew. Yes, I can confirm I run the latest Ghostscript and all latest patches. Downgrading to the gutenprint-5.2.4 from 11.3 fixes the color problems. I now use the gutenprint-5.2://bjc-i850/expert driver, which wasn't available in the 11.4 gutenprint. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711731 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711731#c3 Johannes Meixner <jsmeix@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |RESOLVED InfoProvider|batpul@gmail.com | Resolution| |UPSTREAM --- Comment #3 from Johannes Meixner <jsmeix@novell.com> 2011-08-11 11:09:53 UTC --- Then it is very likely an issue in the Gutenprint 5.2.6 driver. I close this bug report as "upstream" according to https://bugzilla.novell.com/page.cgi?id=fields.html#status "Responsibility for a bug is said to lie upstream when it is not caused through the distribution's porting efforts." Because we do not develop printer driver software (we only distribute it "as is" from the upstream projects), and because we do not have your printer model we can neither reproduce it nor can we fix it. Please report the issue to the Gutenprint upstream project: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/ Usually via their mailing list gimp-print-devel@lists.sourceforge.net see http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Mailing_Lists.php -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
