The variation /usr/bin/startkde doesn't server a KDE desktop. It serves a black screen. (as opposed to KDE4 which serves the gray screen). But in this case the log is more revealing. The remote screen is viewed in the web browser until the mouse is moved. When the mouse is moved the connection resets. But for the first case where the CLI connection "vncviewer IPaddress:1" is used a full session can be had. Unfortunately some of the command line options normally available attached to the startup command on the server don't work. I see this workaround involving "dbus-start" as possibly only providing a further clue. Cannot get a desktop served up via 580x or 590x. Using tight VNC over several clients or JavaBased browsers on those clients. Access via external and local networks garners same result.
