Either way when I reboot or shutdown the system the array is marked as dirty causing re synch when it comes back up. This does not occur in my opensuse 13.1 builds. i am unable to uograde the servers that are on 12.3 for probably another year. I really need this to get fixed. Thanks! You say "with/without" - what exactly does that mean? I could not find the mdadm 3.3.x that 13.1 uses for the 12.3. I rebooted all three and they resynched. one is a smaller drive SSD setup, samsung 250GB SSD's, and that synched already. So I decided to reboot again to insure all the new files were in place now after the first reboot. again another resynch. i have 15 minutes left on another server, 500GB WD drives, and I will try the same thing. will reply back then. btw the date on the mdadm i upgraded to is 3rd Sept 2013 Is there a newer mdadm? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873121 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873121#c7 --- Comment #7 from Glen Whittenberg 2014-04-14 18:33:44 UTC --- I got it to work on test server 1. remove all drives from raid array in RST bios 2. set bios to AHCI 3. removed all partitions from all 4 drives with gparted and fdisk 4. set bios to raid 5. build raid10 in RST bios 6. reinstall of 12.3 from DVD 5. apply all patches during install 6. reboot 7. array is synching 8. copy mdadm-3.3-126.1.x86_64.rpm to /root dir 9. zypper install /root/mdadm-3.3-126.1.x86_64.rpm 10. reboot 11. array finishes syching After the synching is done I can reboot or shutdown and this does not cause a synch again when coming back up. volume is marked as clean. the other servers are in production so I cant just take down and rebuild the arrays. i did apply mdadm-3.3-126.1.x86_64.rpm, rebooted twice after each successful resynch, but still resycnhs after a reboot or shutdown. It turn out the distribution DVD I was originally using is what is causing the problems. when i use that DVD the problem is there. It seems like it is not shutting down the system properly causing / to be marked dirty on the reboot/shutdown process.
