[Bug 810661] New: VSFTPD does not start due to missing another service which depends
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810661 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810661#c0 Summary: VSFTPD does not start due to missing another service which depends Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: varyheavy@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0 In OpenSUSE 12.3, vsftpd service can not be started because it depends on network-remotefs service, which can not be found in the services listing. When I execute the command "systemctl status network-remotefs.service", console gives me the following message: network-remotefs.service Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory) Active: inactive (dead) This makes, among other things, FTP server not working. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install vsftpd. 2. Try to start vsftpd service. 3. Execute the command "systemctl status network-remotefs.service". Actual Results: The network-remotefs service is missing, and this makes vsftpd not working. Expected Results: There should be no problem to run vsftpd. I never had this problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The "vs" stands for Very Secure. Obviously this is not a guarantee, but the entire codebase was written with security in mind, and carefully designed to be resilient to attack. Recent evidence suggests that vsftpd is also extremely fast (and this is before any explicit performance tuning!). In tests against wu-ftpd, vsftpd was always faster, supporting over twice as many users in some tests. Distribution: openSUSE 12.3

The server is running fine.. are you sure it is properly configured ? is there any other log message ?

This is a bug in the yast runlevel module do not use it..nothing to do with the service in question.
Anyway, I've tried to connect to the FTP server without success.

Please ask for support in the mailing lists or forums, there is no bug in the vsftpd package 's systemd units, but a problem in your configuration. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have tried now with pure-ftpd, and I could connect to the server, but the problem of the service which does not start at system boot persist, and YaST services module keeps saying that the cause is the network-remotefs needed service.
When I execute "systemctl start pure-ftpd.service", the service starts correctly. But if I reboot the system, pure-ftpd service does not start automatically, and I think that the cause is the same before: the YaST services module.
You must use systemctl enable/start .. there is no problem with the systemd units. for the yast thing there are other bugs already open, use the search engine in the right corner and look for "runlevel" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
