1. Have you tried to choose NIS during the installation? In the dialog with the user data, you can click Change and select NIS in a new dialog.
This is how it was arranged on 11.0 and earlier. On 11.1 I did not see NIS stuff when asked to enter user data.
2. Even if you don't do it, are you really forced to create new user or does YaST ask you if you are sure as Cyril writes in comment 1?

I am able to select NIS in alpha2. So, please, try to check again (you don't need to do full installation, just boot and proceed to user setting, this shouldn't take much time).
