[Bug 485452] New: regulatory domain for wireless should be setup by the startup scripts
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485452 Summary: regulatory domain for wireless should be setup by the startup scripts Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: markus.kossmann@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.2; Linux) KHTML/4.2.1 (like Gecko) SUSE Factory SUSE-11.2 will use kernel 2.6.29 or newer which uses the crda framework for setting up the allowed channels for mac80211 based wireless drivers. If you don't setup the regulatory domain, this framework will restrict you to channel 1-11 and you won't be able to connect to a wireless router which is running for example at channel 13. People, who are using a wireless chipset, which works on 11.1 without that restriction ( like the Intel chips) wil see a rgression here. Of course you can open a terminal and run "iw reg set <your domain>" to get connection. But that's a horror in terms of usability. IMHO you should be able to use a wireless connection as replacement for a wired connection with no restrictions on channel choice. That requires that the regulatory domain setup is run before or during the basic network setup scripts because there maybe a service, which depends on a working network connection. So there should be either a new init script or the current network setup scripts have be extenced to setup the regulatory domain in time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Setup wireless router to channel 13 2. 3. Actual Results: no wireless connection possible without manual user interaction Expected Results: wireless connection possible -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
