collected dmesg after boot
These were taken with two kernels:
3.12.49-1-default: evergreen-13.1 kernel, very similar to SLE12-SP1 GM
4.1.13-5-default: current Leap 42.1 update
booted in three different setups:
-noiommu: IOMMU disabled in UEFI/BIOS setup
no suffix: IOMMU enabled, no iommu parameter on kernel command line
-iommupt: IOMMU enabled, "iommu=pt" on kernel command line
Observed behaviour:
- with IOMMU disabled in UEFI/BIOS, both kernels boot, USB 3.0 ports work but
USB 2.0 ports do not and neither does onboard Realtek 8168evl/8111evl network
adapter (that's where the watchdog warning comes from)
- with IOMMU enabled and no iommu parameter, 3.12.49 stops responding early
in the boot (haven't investigated why)
- with IOMMU enabled and no iommu parameter, 4.1.13 boots without any apparent
problem; however, after some time (usually 12-60 hours), kernel log starts
getting flooded by IO_PAGE_FAULT messages (I'll attach a sample in a moment)
- with IOMMU enabled and iommu=pt parameter, there is no apparent problem;
I'm not sure I ever tested this for long enough with kernel older than 4.0,
however
- kernel 4.4.rc3-1.1.g3d7391b (Kernel:HEAD from ~2 weeks ago) seems to behave
the same way as 4.1.13
