Had to put /usr/bin/Xorg away to carry out the 3rd phase of install in text mode. "radeon" and "radeonhd" produces blank screen. - No tuning has been done to the std xorg.conf - Xorg.0.log doesn't show any error "vesa" or "fglrx" are alright. occurs on Opensuse 11.2 with or without last updates. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Opensuse 11.2 on Radeon HD 2.At the end of the copying, when Xorg is launched => blank screen 3. Occurs every time Xorg is invoked. See the last attachments for "radeon" driver behaviour. By the way, it seems to be a combination of two distinct problems, may be related : 1/ Once Xorg invoked, the laptop panel is deadlocked blank, but with no apparent errors in xorg.conf. Except for a VGA output initialization, despite no monitor ever being attached to the VGA output. Maybe the flat panel isn't correctly probed / detected ? What surprises me is : if I plug the HDMI output to another monitor, I can see KDE4 loading before it crashes (see below). 2/ KDE4 appears to crash due to some errors, see xsession-errors : kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib64/libkdeinit4_kglobalaccel.so WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not supported! Now with "radeon" driver, 2D & video are operating nicely. However due to early state of 3D accel in Mesa 7.7 for r700 some GL apps (GoogleEarth, Kwin compositing) makes Xorg crash or freeze. I have the same problem on ati radeon 9200. Your card may have two video out. My card have VGA and DVI video out. Then VGA out turned to off, my screen is blank. At DVI out we have signal. :( Now I can't understand how i can configure with sax2 without DVI monitor :(

Didn't try "radeonhd", since "radeon" actually provides all the needed features for r600/r700. A bit offtopic, here is the setup i'll recommend from Opensuse 11.2 on an R600/700 chip : - switch to latest Xorg (1.7.xx)/Mesa from repo : http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/ - switch to HEAD kernel from repo : http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/ - upgrade libdrm and install drm-all-kmp + kernel-firmware from : http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jobermayr/ This will enable kernel modesetting, now very stable and soon probably the only way to go for graphics drivers. - use latest xf86-video-ati from git it's the only way to get LVDS working anyway. - Make sure xorg.conf contains under Device Section : Driver "radeon" Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" Somehow migrationheuristic=greedy still gives better performance than the default "always". This way I've got now a very pleasant desktop experience.
