[Bug 213852] New: Installation of a oSA5p Xen VM from CD or DVD fails
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=213852 Summary: Installation of a oSA5p Xen VM from CD or DVD fails Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 5 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: cgriffin@novell.com ReportedBy: lbendixs@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Steps: 1. Insert openSUSE Alpha5plus installation CD or DVD into drive. 2. add a new vm and accept defaults with cd/dvd as install source.(512M Ram) 3. begin install 4. After selecting defaults and while the Installation Mode screen is up in the background (i.e. very early in the install) an error window pops up stating "Failed to initialize the catalog" and the installation will not proceed. I tried CD on 32 bit and DVD on 64 bit. I have not tried network install source yet because kirk does not have one for it and I have not created my own yet. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

All attempts to get a log for this have been thwarted. I tried going into debug mode with ssh enabled so that I could export the logs and was unable to find the xennet driver needed to enable networking (it couldn't get an IP address). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=213852 ------- Comment #19 from mt@novell.com 2006-11-15 04:33 MST ------- Hmm... This happens, because we removed an workarround in Bug 197107 from zypp, that was checking if there is mountable filesystem using libblkid and it seems that I didn't tested it propelly or it changed. dmesg shows: hda: hda1 hda2 hdb: unknown partition table hdc: unknown partition table there is a link for the ISO image: "/dev/disk/by-label/SU1010.001 -> ../../hdb" and "udevinfo -q all -e" shows the mapped ISO as well. The 'phy' mapped DVD/CDROM (with a Dual-Layer DVD inside) is in /sys/block but appears only in hwinfo output with "Size: 4154832 sectors a 2048 bytes" in my case. The "vol_id" utility shows informations for both: root@xanthos2:~ # vol_id /dev/hdb ID_FS_USAGE=filesystem ID_FS_TYPE=iso9660 ID_FS_VERSION= ID_FS_UUID= ID_FS_LABEL=SU1010.001 ID_FS_LABEL_SAFE=SU1010.001 root@xanthos2:~ # vol_id /dev/hdc ID_FS_USAGE=filesystem ID_FS_TYPE=iso9660 ID_FS_VERSION= ID_FS_UUID= ID_FS_LABEL=SU1010.001 ID_FS_LABEL_SAFE=SU1010.001 what IMO means, some of the udev helper scriupts / rules does not work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
