The machine is in constant use and I did not realise there was a deadline. I could maybe do it this week. Note that this is standard Intel 'corporate hardware' so it seems likely that you will get it reported against SLED sometime. I'm finally happy that I decided against using this driver by default for the (non-tested) Q965 chipsets. If you would like to try some bleeding edge Xserver/driver technology there are packages available on our buildservice with the latest "intel" driver, which possibly works better with your chipset. http://software.opensuse.org/download/xorg73/openSUSE_10.2/ At least you'll need the xorg-x11-server and xorg-x11-driver-video package. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247012 ------- Comment #11 from ian.grant@cl.cam.ac.uk 2007-03-07 07:09 MST ------- I have access toa atest machine for a couple of days. It has openSUSE10.2 and an Intel ADD2 card. I can try out anything on it as no-one else is using it. With xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-88.2.x86_64.rpm xorg-x11-server-7.2-81.1.x86_64.rpm it fails to produce any video display at all and text modes are inaccessible. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247012 ------- Comment #13 from ian.grant@cl.cam.ac.uk 2007-03-08 02:53 MST ------- Created an attachment (id=123113) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=123113&action=view) Xorg0.log using the i810 driver in the 7.2-88.2 RPM When I looked in the log file after trying these RPMs the rist time I realised that the server was exiting after loading the dri module. So I loaded the libdrm-2.3.0-1.1 RPM as well and things worked better! Here is the log file from this. The display works, but text modes are not restored and I have found that the server seems to be looping in select(256, [1 11 12], NULL, NULL, {107, 233000}) = ? ERESTARTNOHAND (To be restarted) select(256, [1 11 12], NULL, NULL, {107, 233000}) = ? ERESTARTNOHAND (To be restarted) and the caps lock light doesn't change. The monitor is complaining that the signal is Non Optimum Mode and isn't displaying anything. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

What I meant to say was that the video display was good at first, but after switching to text mode and back again, the server seems to go into a loop, the screen is blank, the monitor says 'Non Optimum Mode' and the caps lock doesn't do anything. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247012 ------- Comment #18 from ian.grant@cl.cam.ac.uk 2007-03-08 03:22 MST ------- Aha, OK. The "intel" driver displays video. But switching to text mode I get a terrible display, however one can see the character glyphs, but it looks like arabic in 640x480 pixels. Then on switching back to the X display it is blank, and the X server seems to be looping in "select(256, [1 11 12], NULL, NULL, {35, 769000})" again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247012 ------- Comment #19 from ian.grant@cl.cam.ac.uk 2007-03-08 03:31 MST ------- It depends on the text mode. Booting the kernel with vga=normal I can switch to and from the text mode VCs OK, but after switching away from X and going back I just get a blue screen, no kdm greeting. However the server is looking at the keyboard and in a much more interesting-looking loop. The caps lock light work and I can restart it with Ctl-Alt-Backspace. However the kdm display never reappears. Just a blue background. This is probably more information than is useful to you though :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The only problem is that DRI is not available so people who need the 3d graphics hardware will have to lose their text-mode displays. Let me know if are likely to have more beta code to test. I could hang on to this test box for a few more days, would it worthwhile waiting?
