[Bug 498947] New: KDE Network Control Module Cannot Manage the Network Nor be Configured with a Static IP
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498947 Summary: KDE Network Control Module Cannot Manage the Network Nor be Configured with a Static IP Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032600 SUSE/3.0.8-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.8 KDE Control Module has a Network Manager for KDE4. This applet/widget sits in the system tray next to the clocks default position. Under test conditions where Yast is not managing the network in favour for Network Manager which is also not managing the network there is a third network control module that cannot manage the Network, With this KDE control Module is is impossible to enter a static IP or Manual IP as the ADD button does not function. I have the suspicion that this application requires a MAC address that has to be entered manually as there is no auto detect Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open KDE Network Control Module 2. Click ADD and select Manual IP. 3.Click ADD on the IP details screen and nothing happens. 4.The whole network is currently not managed by any application in KDE V11.1 Actual Results: No Application manages the Network Connection Expected Results: We need to rationalise how many application can possibly manage the network other than IFUP which cannot currently hold a static IP address. The Management of the Network clearly has not ever been tested by either the application Programer nor picked up in BETA. Its bad enough to have 4 different applications to manage the network connection and even worse that none of them function correctly. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The Management of the Network clearly has not ever been tested by either the application Programer nor picked up in BETA. Quite a bold claim... openSUSE developers live by "eat your own dogfood", and they do require network as well, if it wouldn't work at all they sure would have noticed....
Its bad enough to have 4 different applications to manage the network connection and even worse that none of them function correctly for 11.1 you are supposed to use networkmanager-kde on kde4, as networkmanager-kde4 wasn't ready yet. It is the default in the kde4 pattern, the networkmanager-kde4 released with 11.1 can be considered a preview, it is up to this day still work in progress (but working pretty good)
So please try again with networkmanager-kde to discover WLANs and set a static IP, it works fine for me, also remove networkmanager-kde4 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
