[Bug 808314] New: switching resolution in games does not work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=808314 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=808314#c0 Summary: switching resolution in games does not work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rommel@suse.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Component Test Blocker: --- When trying to switch resolution in games like extreme-tuxracer and armagetrond I get this: Set new videomode:1680x1050 bpp:0 X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 130 (XFree86-VidModeExtension) Minor opcode of failed request: 10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode) Value in failed request: 0x25a Serial number of failed request: 188 Current serial number in output stream: 190 ... and the application aborts. This happens only on x86_64. On i386 everything works fine. This happens both with 12.3 GM and nvidia G03 as well as with 12.2 + latest maintenance updates and nvidia G02. On 12.1 and 11.4 this worked on both architectures with the same applications and hardware without problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

2) switching resolutions on x86_64 with the G02 drivers does NOT seem to work (in contrast to i586)

Please advise.
So the application tries to change to color depth 0 (WTF?), fails and then bails out? Sounds like a bug in the application to me. Also I wasn't aware of any application still using vidmode extension to change the resolution.
Funny thing is that it happens both with etracer (Linux extreme racer) and armagetrond (the GL clone of tron) - but only on x86_64. On i386 everything works fine.
Ok. No such issues with x86_64 packages of extreme-tuxracer and armagetron of games project using -G03 310.32 driver on a 12.2-x86_64 system. Same applies to -G02 304.64 packages on the same system. I'v tested on a laptop with an external monitor with 1680x1050 resolution. Unfortunately when starting the game etracer switches to internal 1600x900 internal laptop display. This does not happen with armagetron though. I guess I need exactly this test system for reproduction.
