This one is going to be tough to track down. What's happened is that the page_buffers(page) list has gotten corrupted with an invalid entry. Have you seen this happen more than once? The stack trace corresponds to this: static int drop_buffers(struct page *page, struct buffer_head **buffers_to_free) { struct buffer_head *head = page_buffers(page); struct buffer_head *bh; bh = head; do { v--- bh is garbage. if (buffer_write_io_error(bh) && page->mapping) set_bit(AS_EIO, &page->mapping->flags); if (buffer_busy(bh)) goto failed; bh = bh->b_this_page; } while (bh != head); /* ... */ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I had boinc running 2 processes in the background so the CPU was at 100%. But this was OK before update of Kernel. (uptime was 40+ days) I was testing a new NFS backup to this server and the box was locked up after the backup was finished. I have reformatted the swap partition and ran a low disk check - NO ERRORS. I updated to the new boinc version (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php) and still get the error. I have shut down the boinc processes for now so the box is idle. Next step I plan on swapping out the swap drive the next patching window next month. Also please look at bug 373846/7 the issues may be related. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I do not understand why? is having a swap partition > 2 Gig an issue on a 32-bit version of SuSE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Low level disk reads/writes tests showed no issues. I reinstalled 10.3 and applied all the current patches and I am NOT having any issues. fingers crossed 8-) This box was the first box that I installed 10.3 on the day it was released. So I do not know if one if the old patches did something but right now I have 3 successful backup from remote systems. On a new note: I did find an issue with the upgrade scripts on a clean install. I had to apply the kernel upgrade all by itself. (ie) Install dvd - reboot - install all non kernel patches - reboot - install all non kernel patches again (additional patches found) - reboot - install kernel - reboot -> results OK If I do Install dvd - reboot - install all remaining patches with kernel - reboot the system will not boot. If I do Install dvd - reboot - install all non kernel patches - reboot - install all remaining patches with kernel - reboot the system will not boot. So the upgrade/install process was something like Install SuSE go into upgrade process While ( non - kernel patches exist ) { - - install all non kernel patches - - reboot } Stay in loop of installing non kernel patches until just the kernel patch is install all by itself. - install kernel - reboot - check for more patches - reboot if any installed -> results OK -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
