[Bug 402100] New: iwl4965 Causes hard freeze and caps lock flash
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=402100 Summary: iwl4965 Causes hard freeze and caps lock flash Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: novell@driscollnewsletter.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other Unfortunately when intesively using wireless with opensuse 11.0 the system often hard locks and the caps lock light flashes. I am using a Thinkpad T61 and experienced this same problem with 10.3, but I found a fix there: this was to upgrade to the opensuse build services new version of iwlwifi and iwl4965. The problem with 11.0 is it seems that the actual kernel module is no longer in an iwlwifi package, but it is in the kernel itself (I am using the pae kernel). Clearly there is a fix for this in the iwlwifi code, I would be grateful if this is imported into the 11.0 kernel. There appears to be a newer version of the iwl driver from http://intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi that I would hope might fix the issue, please can this be included in a kernel package update? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you can locate a fix for this problem in the upstream kernel code, I will be glad to apply it, but a wholesale replacement for a driver after the product has been released isn't acceptable at this point in time, sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you set up a serial console and get the kernel output before it hangs? If not, are you able to reproduce the bug while switched to a text console (Ctrl-Alt-F1 from X) and take a photo of the message? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, when it happens, it is a hard lock, so the machine just plain doesn't respond. Does the kernel panic get logged anywhere other than the console? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is a chance to see the message if you disable "kbd" service in runlevel editor in YaST and boot the kernel with vga=1 parameter. Then you can connect as usual using NetworkManager (or anything other), use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to the text console and try to reproduce the bug from there (or from another machine via ssh). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However, I have done some digging, and found a bug registered at iwlwifi that seems to be the same issue: http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1726 http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1703 So it would appear that there is still to be a fix in the driver.
