[Bug 853988] New: Addressbook not syncing via CardDAV in Thunderbird
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853988 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853988#c0 Summary: Addressbook not syncing via CardDAV in Thunderbird Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: craig@arno.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=570483) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=570483) Image of Thunderbird 24.1.1 Addons in use User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 Thunderbird 24.1.1 / OpenSUSE 12.3 x64 SOGo Connector 24.0.2 OwnCloud 5.0.12 / OpenSUSE 12.2 x64 Thunderbird Addressbook is not able to Sync with OwnCloud. (Right click on OwnCloud Addressbook in Thunderbird, select "Synchronize"). The sync operation silently fails. There is no log entry in Thunderbird's Error Log Window, and no entries in owncloud.log. Addressbook used to sync with OwnCloud in earlier versions of both sets of tools. I don't know when it stopped working. How can I get more debug information to say if it is the Addressbook>SOGo interface, or the SOGo>CardDAV interface, or the CardDAV>OwnCloud interface? I'd like to be able to tell you more than it is "silently not working". I modify an addressbook entry in Thunderbird, force a sync, then go look at the Addressbook entry in OwnCloud. No change. I re-verified the CardDAV URL with OwnCloud. They match, and as I said, did work at one time. If I wait long enough (10 minutes?), I see a seemingly unrelated: Timestamp: 12/05/2013 10:32:25 AM Warning: Use of getAttributeNodeNS() is deprecated. Use getAttributeNS() instead. Source File: resource://calendar/modules/calXMLUtils.jsm Line: 32 show in the Thunderbird Error Log Window. I believe this is from Lightning 2.6.3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Thunderbird 24.1.1 / SOGo Connector 24.0.2 / OpenSUSE 12.3 x64 2. Configure for a CardDAV server (I use OwnCloud) 3. Attempt a sync. Actual Results: Viewing Contact information on the CardDAV server, there is no change to existing data. Expected Results: Nothing, and silence from Thunderbird Error Console. I would like to see output which will help me do a better job of debugging prior to reporting. As it is, all I can tell you is it isn't working. It did work with earlier versions of these tools, but not now. It silently died. This feature lets me access Contact information from 4-5 different computer "seats". Lacking the ability to sync has fairly major impact to work. I wish I could give you more information. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is that part of our thunderbird package or some download? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No sync possible with something like OwnCloud or other groupware systems or addressbooks. The SOGo Connector implements something like a pretty standardized carddav sync interface for Thunderbird. It's an external addon and works with some carddav server implementations. But it's nothing we as openSUSE provide or support. I'd like to see proper carddav support in Thunderbird but that's not available yet and we cannot help with the SOGO extension. I'm not sure if the SOGo project helps when trying to connect to ownCloud. You should probably try to get some help from the ownCloud community or company. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I posted yesterday, I'd hit a wall looking for data. Since this post I used Wireshark to determine Thunderbird/SOGo Connector are sending CardDAV information to OwnCloud. I'm now working with the OwnCloud team for a solution. Wish I'd known yesterday what I know today... I could have saved us both the effort of this posting. If you need CardDAV support in Thunderbird, the SOGo Connector is the solution at this time. http://sogo.nu/downloads/frontends.html Thank you for your support. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
