And that's the ones we are to discuss. If you feel they should not be in network:telephony. I have the updates ready and will submit them this afternoon to G:F and then to network:telephony. If you do not want to maintain them in network:telephony, then keeping them in G:F might be the best. you could simply link to them to have them in network:telephony and we would change the devel project for Factory. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have been a bit busy lately and haven't kept them up to date, but I have been making a concerted effort this week to fix that. (As you can probably see from the package changes in network:telephony) I am trying to make the time this week to go through an cleanup all the unmaintained packages in openSUSE:Factory that currently depend on pwlib so that they depend on ptlib in future. Almost all of them are daemons or command line apps and definitely should live in network:telephony from now on. I am also happy for Ekiga to live in network:telephony, but I don't have time personally to be the package maintainer (Sorry, but I dont use GNOME myself and don't have time to track it). As long as someone else is happy to take that role great. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I will give you and anyone else (within reason) who wants to help maintain them maintainer access and you can aggregate the resulting packages into G:F I don't mind where ekiga lives officially as it can be aggregated in either direction. You are right that it probably should live with opal in network:telephony also so that when we update libpt2/opal it gets QAed along with all the other dependent apps. The only concern I have is that network:telephony should not pull in a huge amount of bleeding edge packages from G:F. As long as we can keep that to a minimum I think this setup should keep everyone happy and save having multiple versions of libpt2 and opal floating around.. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't think separating ekiga from libpt / opal is a very good approach. You can't touch one of the packages with the other two.
Agree: libpt/opal/ekiga are generally released at the same time. (In reply to comment #31)
how about you get ekiga maintainer in n:t then? :)
I would say that maintainership of libpt/opal/ekiga should go to the same people. And given the fact that it was, hrm, not really moving before the GNOME team took over, I guess the GNOME team has to keep it unless some other people step up. Now, as to moving stuff to n:t again... The main reason to go back to G:F was a tool issue: if the GNOME team maintains those packages, then it's easier if it works with our tools. And osc gnome was not able to track n:t. Now, it's able to track n:t, but we still miss a feature to stay you want to track those packages in n:t, and not the whole n:t. So. My conclusion: if you move it back to n:t, then please find other maintainers first because you can be sure we'll ignore the packages in n:t for now. Else, please wait until we fix our tools :-) (and it's going to happen, it's actually nearly there). Feel free to disagree with my conclusion, of course. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, I'm fine maintaining Ekiga in n:t, but it will probably end up as a
'if nobody complains, there is nothing to do' package.
Other than that: Ekiga does not have nasty patches and can be maintained by anybody in n:t. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As I see things, the latest versions (highest version numbers and latest dates) for ekiga, libpt2, and opal are in G:F. The ones in n:t are older. The openSuSE factory is in-between. I have used gnomemeeting/ekiga for years for a project videoconference. But I have never been able to get ekiga to work with openSuSE 11.0 or later. I am stuck with 10.3 on my main computers at work, but it is no longer supported. I use KDE4 and need h323 to connect to an IP address of a MCU (in Japan). The problem is mostly or entirely audio. When I connect to the MCU on my 10.3 system, I get a voice message back that "You are the first participant." On the 11.x systems, there is NO audio in either direction. There is video transmission out (the bouncing ball), but nothing coming back (which I am not worried about at this point). The firewall is shut off. I have communicated with the ekiga developers, and sent them full dump files. They say they see nothing wrong. I have tried compiling their source files, run into all kinds of troubles and, even if successful, the code behaves the same way. I keep hoping that the SuSE version will eventually work as easily and as well as gnomemeeting or ekiga v2 once did. My sound system seems to be fine. I get system sounds, audio CDs play well, I get video and sound from web movie clips, and skype works fine. I can use arecord and aplay successfully. It is only ekiga which fails. The keycodes changed with 11.2, and I had to generate a new .Xmodmap for some applications. Now I have serious problems in working on files on my 10.3 machines when I ssh to them. The cure is to put all machines under 11.2. But that means ekiga must work. Where should I go to get the best ekiga and libraries? How can I be sure that other things in 11.2 won't get messed up, as factory development continues? The root problem might be something simple, but I have not found it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There has been no response to my previous message, and the situation is getting critical. I see that there are various updates (recompilations/linkings?) in G:F and n:t, but no change in functionality. I installed the latest opal from the openSuSE factory, and there was no change in behavior. Running under kde4, try connecting to h323:34@130.87.34.42 All I get is the bouncing ball, one connection line of PCMA-H261 up video transmission of ~25 fps, no down video transmission, and NO AUDIO transmission either way. If you can connect and hear a message back ("you are the first participant") then there is some configuration problem, which I don't understand. H.245 tunneling is enabled, but early H.245 is not and neither is the fast start procedure. (This configuration is needed under SuSE 10.3.) The Audio Devices are all Default (PTLIB/ALSA). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's kept open only for comments 29 to 35. FWIW, in general, you probably don't want to use packages from GNOME:Factory (it's experimental stuff, only for people who want to follow the bleeding edge GNOME for openSUSE). I understand you're using 10.3, and to be honest, this is quite old and it's not supported anymore, so I'm not sure what to do there. If you can try 11.2 and it works there, then all is fine; if it's not working, someone would need to investigate, but please open another bug for this. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I posted on this bug because it involved discussions with the people who are apparently most relevant for maintaining ekiga, and who would most likely know what could be wrong -- or who find out quickly. A new bug might sit idle if people can't decide if it is a problem for the audio maintainers, ekiga maintainers, h323 maintainers, kde4 maintainers,... I don't want to use 10.3, but I have had no success ever with any later version. It is the only one on which I can get ekiga to work (with v2.0.9). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
