KDE Bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378042 5.8.7 LTS change list: https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.8.6-5.8.7-changelog.php "Backport 5.9/Master's GroupDialog code to 5.8. Commit. Fixes bug #378042. Phabricator Code review D5287"
I'm very reluctant to pick this commit, as it is a backport from Plasma 5.9 that did not receive proper testing and already broke Plasma 5.8.7 with Qt 5.6 completely. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

My installation is completely broken without that fix. As the referenced bug report shows, the taskbar is unusable for selecting app instances when more than 10-15 or so instances are present, and I often have more emacs than that open.
If this isn't fixed, I think I'll have to leave OpenSUSE because I can't work with such a broken setup.
You can use external repositories such as KDE:Frameworks5:LTS with Plasma 5.8.7.
This problem was INTRODUCED by the previous KDE 5 update, but now it's not going to be fixed?
Which one? The change can be reverted. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It was the previous KDE 5 release for 42.2 before the one that just happened- in February IIRC - so 5.8.6 I assume. https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.8.6.php If I roll it back, I'd assume I'd have other issues - security holes perhaps?
The state before 5.8.6 was 5.8.3 IIRC, so you'll miss all fixes between those versions. None of them are security related though.
If you mean which change in that release broke it, I have no idea. I hadn't planned to spend time debugging the desktop.
You can just use KDE:Frameworks5 if it bothers you that much.
I've had lots of problems with 42.2 - plasmashell locking up with 100% CPU, corrupted icon fonts, this issue, and kruler not remembering the options you set, just to list a few. 42.2 is suppsoed to be an LTS release and stable, but it's not rock solid like 13.2 or 13.1. I never had any issues with those.
Did you report all those? I haven't ever heard about the icon fonts and kruler ones and we can only fix issues we are aware of. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not if you use KDE:Frameworks5:LTS as instructed on the wiki: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:KDE_repositories#Long-Term- Support_Frameworks_and_Plasma That link was exactly what I was looking at when I added the 5.8.7 repository, and I did not see any warning there that I couldn't use Yast.
Note that you need to use zypper dup --from <repo> to install it, the updater applet does not handle vendor changes and doing it manually is error-prone. OK, but I wasn't using the "updater applet" if by that you mean the tool that you can launch from the task manager. I tried with Yast, using both "Online Update" and "Software Management" - neither would recognize the newer version(s).

See also: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB: Vendor_change_update#Full_repository_Vendor_change Cool. I'll try that next time.

Note that oddly, the taskbar tool (that notifies you of whether you have updates and allows you to update with a single click) is the ONLY way that I can now do a full update (taking the latest of each repository) with that special repository included.
I can't do the "vendor change" over to the KDE 5.8.7 LTS repository because then YasT tries to uninstall kdm (only supported by KDE 4?) and I want kdm for login. Not a fan of the SDDM login app - why isn't it themed green by default like OpenSUSE itself?
Looks openSUSE-themed enough to me: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/441946#step/first_boot/1
It's a bit odd that the taskbar tool works perfectly, as it was less capable than YasT in previous OpenSUSE releases.
That means you get some conflicts with a dup, those need to be resolved. Please provide the full zypper output. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

This bug has not been fixed. It's broken in OpenSUSE Leap 42.3:
KDE Plasma Version 5.8.7 KDE Framework Version 5.32.0 Qt Version 5.6.2 Kernel Version 4.4.176
and it's even broken in OpenSUSE Leap 15.0:
KDE Plasma Version 5.12.8 KDE Framework Version 5.45.0 Qt Version 5.9.4 Kernel Version 4.12.14
Should I file a new bug or can this one be re-opened?
Plasma 5.12.8 has the commit you're referencing, so the issue you're seeing is completely unrelated. Please file a bug upstream. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
