[Bug 337526] New: Problems to Boot Windows 98 after 10.3 install
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=337526 Summary: Problems to Boot Windows 98 after 10.3 install Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: marcel@hilzinger.hu QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- We got reports from at least two different readers, that after the installation of 10.3 windows 98 fails to boot with the following message: "XMS-Treiber nicht geladen bzw. defekt, kann A20-Leitung nicht steuern, Himem nicht geladen" HIMEM.SYS not found Here the full reports in german (e-mails from our readers): Zur Sache: Die Windows-Datei "himem.sys" ist im Windows-Verzeichnis vorhanden und offensichtlich auch lesbar, denn wenn ich Linux "lösche" (fdisk /mbr) startet anstandslos windows98.

This has proven very beneficial to all Operating Systems, but obviously hurts graphical program loaders like '98. Himem.sys seems to be confused if things are already in a usable state, producing the false loading error. Workarounds: * use a standalone boot selector to choose between '98 and operating systems * find a capable himem.sys from third parties. * upgrade the gaming platform to a supported version (e.g. XP) * stick to a SuSE Linux from 1998 as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
