[Bug 397774] New: system freeze first when removing unmounted USB, later when plugging it in
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=397774 Summary: system freeze first when removing unmounted USB, later when plugging it in Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Hotplug AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: roger.larsson@e-gatan.se QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Bought a new WDElements 500GB today. First plugin was successful - some KDE windows asking if I wanted to run autostart contents on drive. I checked what it was - an .ini refering to an icon - accepted. Disk showed up as /media/Elements but with FAT filesystem... unmounted it and partitioned it as ext3. OK, interested in how will it show up this time? Unmounted, unplugging -> Freeze (mp3 that played did not stop immediately) (no magic worked, not even NumLock) Reset, all came up again. Plugging it in -> Freeze Reset, safe mode Plugging it in -> Freeze {repeated several times] Suspected hotplugging due to the mp3, found one process called hald-addon-storage killed it before plugging in USB drive - worked! Did even get that autostart question ended up as /media/disk -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Oh, the problematic disk worked on the laptop, and on this computer when it did not have X running. (But I have suspected that X is involved in some way before) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
