If NetworkManager is running and thinks it's offline Firefox will enter offline mode. So if your WiFi doesn't work anyway you can either disable it and use the ifconfig tools to setup your DHCP client or you can try to let NetworkManager handle your WiFi. You can also at least switch Firefox manually into online mode. I try to connect to my AP but KNetworkManager gives up after some because it doesn't get DHCP respond to it's request. I open terminal and issue these commands: # iwconfig eth1 essid valent # ifconfig eth1 10.3.3.3 netmask 255.255.255.0 # route add default gw 10.3.3.1 After that KNetworkManager reports that I'm offline - but I'm online! You are right. KNetworkManager is what should be fixed. It should be "smart" enough to see that I'm online - and even better it should have an option for connecting to wifi networks with static IP. Should I post this as a separate bug or as a feature reqest?
