"Q: People were very unhappy because I only wrote "see subject" in the Bugzilla bug description - but my subject really explains it all! Isn't it pure nitpicking to insist on bug reporters repeating that in the description field? A: No, not at all. Subjects get changed all the time. The problem you reported might only be the tip of an ice berg - the real problem might be at a completely different place, and then those knowing that place of course will change the subject accordingly. This in turn means that your original subject will get lost. So it should be obvious enough that the subject is no place to store relevant information, and the problem that is being reported certainly is the single most important information in a bug report. It is also simply bad style to dump all kinds of information in the subject and then only reference to the subject. This is just pure laziness. It costs you time once to do it properly, but everybody working with that bug has to search all over the place for the relevant information again and again. In addition to that, a subject should be concise - but a bug description should be explanatory. Both requirements are contradictory." -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Back to the problem: Quantadisplay Monitor is detected as 10" instead of 12.2" during installation. There is no hwinfo available at that point, after the install hwinfo shows the correct value. Maybe because I entered the proper values manually. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Excuse me?! If you'd only stick to the existing FAQs (we write them for a reason, you know), this would not have been necessary. If the information had been in the bug description where it belongs, people could read the bug and know what it's all about. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It should at least return a 'generic' entry based on the current framebuffer settings. In any case, monitor detection is done using the BIOS and may or may not work (with nothing I can do about it). Comment 13 seems to be from a different machine than the original report and is likely a completely different issue. I've created a small test program to find out whether your BIOS can detect the monitor at all. Get it from: http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=home:snwint&q=mdt If your monitor is detected correctly by that program but not by hwinfo then it's a bug I can look at. Else you're just out of luck. For notebooks like your Vaio I maintain a whitelist, though. I'll need the output of 'hwinfo --bios' from that machine and the monitor details (size in mm & pixel) to add it to the list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
