[Bug 249810] New: xvnc server problems / vncserver error
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249810 Summary: xvnc server problems / vncserver error Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sgt-d@sodpit.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com suse 10.3 alpha 1 64 bit during installation it asks if you want vnc server / remote administration enabled. it is off by default. i turned it on during setup. it never asks for any settings, such as the port or the password. i also told it to open a port on the firewall. after suse is installed and kde is running, the xvnc service is running, and i can connect - but none of my passwords work. i have tested with windows vnc viewers from ultravnc, tightvnc and realvnc. i tried using vncpasswd as root and as a normal user, it works and supposedly sets the password --- but the passwords i use never work in the viewers. making matters worse, the vncserver command fails with errors about compilation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249810 max@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |NEEDINFO Info Provider| |sgt-d@sodpit.com ------- Comment #1 from max@novell.com 2007-02-28 10:29 MST ------- The vncserver command is only needed for manually starting standalone vnc sessions. You don't need it for the vnc sessions that are started automatically when you enable vnc remote administration and connect to the host from a vnc viewer. But please post the verbatim error message you are getting from the vncserver command, just in case you have found another bug there. For the automatically started vnc sessions as described above, vnc shouldn't ask for a password, because they come up with the system's graphical login screen, so you can log in with your regular user name and password. If that's not the case for you, please give more details of what happens when you connect to the machine with a vnc viewer. Does vnc ask for the password, or do you get the regular login screen, or does anything else happen? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249810 ------- Comment #2 from sgt-d@sodpit.com 2007-02-28 11:54 MST ------- from the windows computer, as soon as i connect to 192.168.1.1:5901 it instantly prompts me for a password. i have tried 3 different passwords that i'm using in suse, including the current user's password and the root password - but as soon as i hit enter it says that it is an invalid password. as for the exact vncpasswd error, i will send that tonight when i can access my suse box. i would do that now, but i can't vnc to it :p~. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
