[Bug 231154] New: skge module woun't load with more than 3.5GB memory
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231154 Summary: skge module woun't load with more than 3.5GB memory Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: johantuitman@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I have installed SUSE 10.2 at a AMD64 system with 4Gb memory. For the Marvell 88E8001 Ethernet Controller the sk98lin module is automatically selected. With this module the system crash when the network is activated. According to bug report 146930 the skge module should be used. This module gives the following error: Dec 29 18:29:00 reken kernel: skge eth1: enabling interface Dec 29 18:29:00 reken kernel: skge 0000:00:0a.0: PCI error cmd=0x117 status=0x22b0 Dec 29 18:29:00 reken kernel: skge unable to clear error (so ignoring them) I found some information with google: http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/7/23/108 The boot options did not work for me. Till now the only solution I found is to reduce the available memory to 3.5Gb either with mem= kernel option or turning of memory re-mapping in the BIOS. So at this moment I can not use 500mb memory if I want to use the network The sky2 driver in report 146930 does also not work for my. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is a limitation of your hardware, sorry :(
Not much we can do about this.
But using the same hardware with SuSE 9.3 did not have this problem. Please give some explanation why this is a limitation of my hardware. If so, how could it have worked using SuSE 9.3? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This might be fixable upstream.
