Just after I get onto the Gnome desktop I get a message saying package kit error the details are, Desktop: Failed to cache repo (1).. The message reappears when I try to use repositories but with more detail, see below. There was an error in the repository initialization. 'Desktop': Failed to cache repo (1). It is also annoying. How do I resolve this problem or get round it. Unfortunately, the log-files you've attached seems to be pretty incomplete...
