Installation from Gnome Live CD stops with a black screen after grub but before showing the installation wizard (Yast?).
If you get the black screen right after grub (already before X starts) this means that the VESA BIOS of this GPU is simply broken. This results in a broken kernel framebuffer. You can try to boot with kernel option 'vga=normal', but then the result will likely be the same. Just this time vesa instead of fbdev driver will be used. This is not going to work either with a broken VESA BIOS. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I get the graphical bootup screen after GRUB. It's when X should be starting that I get a black screen.
X just writes to the existing framebuffer. There's not much happening here. No modesetting. Nothing.
I know that Poulsbo drivers are incredibly messy, and that I probably should have stayed away from that chipset.
Exactly. At least if you plan to use Linux with that machine.
I read somewhere that 11.3 was going to support it, however.
That's just wrong. Whoever claimed that ... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
