That is why I tried to search smallest possible change that will re-enable ICQ. After changing just a few bytes, ICQ works again in all tested pidgin and gaim versions. The duplicated bug is for SLED11 => it is not publicly accessible. (Not marking it as cross product duplicate to allow other people to find it.) You can find testing packages before the official online update here: http://pack.suse.cz/sbrabec/bug483744/pidgin/ You will have to click to "reenable account".
