There is no vaapi lib for NVIDIA as far as I know. Programs/libs need to support also VDPAU, if they want to use these features also with NVIDIA cards. Mplayer supports it. My current guess is, that they needed a solution for programs/libs, which only support VA-API, but not VDPAU. Feel free to add a package to our buildservice, if you like.
