Seems to be depending on how good/fast the contact will be established. Sorry, “Him” means here the USB-Mouse receiver and “slot” the USB-Slot:) I'm using a Logitech USB notebook-mouse on an VAIO TT laptop. So the system gets some plug-in plug-out messages in a short time. On a “normal” USB plug-in the desktop icons will disappear only for a short time. But this seems to be the normal behavior because they will be visible again in a few milliseconds. Can you please do this to get a stack trace of the crashing nautilus: 1. Install the nautilus-debuginfo package 2. run "pidof nautilus" to get the PID of the nautilus process 3. Run "gdb", then "attach <PID>" with the PID you got 4.
