And it's not only the ZIP which is slower but and most of the rest compression formats are, too. Compressing to '.tar.gz' is also around 5-8 % slower than in Ubuntu and ~10-15 % in Fedora. I've made some tests under the default KDE (fresh install, no gnome installed) and I use the same compression level with 'Ark' and the same folder.
