https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225236 Summary: X crashes when starting "My Computer" with latest Nvidia driver Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: 178155@glocalnet.net QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com This might be a Nvidia bug? Since it also can be a bug in Suse I would like to make you aware of this problem. I have 2 independent computers, both with Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 and the latest Nvidia driver "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9629-pkg1" installed. When I click on the desktop icon "My Computer" X crashes and throw me out to the login screen. This happens on both computers I found this line in /var/log/messages: Dec 1 12:45:41 linuxserver kdm[3522]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly openSuse 10.1 KDE3.5.5 Release 45.1 Intel 4 2 Ghz Ram 1 GB -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225236 ------- Comment #3 from sndirsch@novell.com 2006-12-02 13:46 MST ------- Mikael, your report is for driver version 1.0-9629. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225236 ------- Comment #4 from 178155@glocalnet.net 2006-12-02 14:42 MST ------- Yes, that's what I wrote in my initial comment?? Quote: "I have 2 independent computers, both with Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 and the latest Nvidia driver "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9629-pkg1" installed." End quote. Isn't that the latest driver? At least when I go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and click on "Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris driver" and then choose the "Linux IA32" it is!? Also, if I instead in the selection area choose "Graphics Driver - GeForce and TNT2 - Linux IA32" the version 1.0-9629 is the one offered... If that's not the wright driver which one should I use for SUSE Linux 10.1 with Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti4200 and Intel 32 bit 2 Ghz processor? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225236 ------- Comment #5 from sndirsch@novell.com 2006-12-02 14:52 MST ------- Mikael, 1.0-9629 is known to be buggy with NV2x GPUs. Therefore Lonni asked you if it also occurs with 1.0-9626 or 1.0-8776, so he can see if it's an already known problem or a new one. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225236 ------- Comment #6 from 178155@glocalnet.net 2006-12-02 15:02 MST ------- Sorry, I misunderstood his post..(I'm Swedish you know...;-)) On monday I will try to get some time to install the 1.0-9626 driver instead and test if the bug is occurs. Do I need to manually delete any files or can I just go on and install as usual with "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9626-pkg1.run - q" in runlevel 3? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225236 ------- Comment #8 from lfriedman@nvidia.com 2006-12-03 09:04 MST ------- Installing any NVIDIA driver version automatically uninstalls any previously installed driver version. All you need to do is install a non-1.0-9629 version. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
