https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=310577 Summary: intel: screen get black and machine X.org eat 100% CPU Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 7 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: dkukawka@novell.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com CC: coolo@novell.com, cstender@novell.com Found By: --- It's not reproducible and happend now two times after have the machine several days running: The screen get black (blacklight is off) and I can't use the machine anymore. As this happend the last time I could login via SSH to the machine. The X server needed 100% of the CPU. After kill the server and init 3 init 5 I got the X server back, but all console (e.g. tty1-4) are black. I attach a tar.bz2 with some logs (/var/log/{messages,Xorg.*}, xsession-errors) and the xorg.conf as this happend. I know it's against a Alpha7, but other ppl had similar problems with Beta releases. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I see this also on a beta1. Not sure if beta2 and beta3 are also affected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You can ignore this. IMO a result of a HAL restart.
- Intel 915GM; 3D disabled - Xserver vnc module enabled; I wouldn't recommend to anyone to use it
Unfortunately it's the esiest way to get a vnc remote session.
Since it's not reproducable, I need access to it once it occurs. Let me know. I also recommend to update to current Beta. There have been several intel driver updates since Alpha7.
I have already updated the machine and tell you if this happen again (I would propose Christopher and Coolo do the same). If this happen and you are not available: what do you need? A strace/ltrace of the X-server or something like that? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

- Xserver vnc module enabled; I wouldn't recommend to anyone to use it Unfortunately it's the esiest way to get a vnc remote session. Use YaST2 remote control for this. If you need access to an already running session use krfb (KDE) or vino (Gnome).
If the issue occurs and I'm not available please keep the machine in this state until I am available - if possible. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
