http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1200893 Bug ID: 1200893 Summary: [Build 20220623] eCryptfs test failed when using `file` command to determine file type Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 URL: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/2433234/modules/ecry ptfs/steps/23 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: starry.wang@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: openQA Blocker: Yes ## Observation openQA test in scenario opensuse-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-ecryptfs@64bit fails in [ecryptfs](https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/2433234/modules/ecryptfs/steps/23) ## Test suite description Maintainer: <bchou@suse.com>, <starry.wang@suse.com> ## Reproducible Fails since (at least) Build [20220623](https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/2433234) (current job) ## Expected result Last good: [20220614](https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/2417858) (or more recent) ## Further details Always latest result in this scenario: [latest](https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/latest?arch=x86_64&distri=opensuse&flavor=DVD&machine=64bit&test=ecryptfs&version=Tumbleweed) ## Others Manual test steps FYI: (62 - ecryptfs) https://confluence.suse.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=968033193#SLES15SP4...) eCryptfs test failed when executing command `file .private/testfile` in TW Build 20220623. The `file` command determines an encrypted file to bitmap image format. This test passed successfully in Build 20220614. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1200893 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1200893#c1 Dr. Werner Fink <werner@suse.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |INVALID --- Comment #1 from Dr. Werner Fink <werner@suse.com> --- The test is not valid as the file(1) command can return anything as the testfile below .private is encrypted without a magic byte sequence. In my case I see file .private/testfile .private/testfile: Atari DEGAS Elite bitmap 320 x 200 x 16, color palette 0000 0000 0006 9725 00ab ... which can not be true. The expected value at https://confluence.suse.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=968033193#SLES15SP4... is simply a fully random chance and depends on the version of the file package. Do use the file(1) command only and only if the encypted result has a magic byte in the very first few starting bytes. AFAIK this is not the case for ecryptfs. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1200893 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1200893#c2 --- Comment #2 from Dr. Werner Fink <werner@suse.com> --- No results werner/file> grep -i ecryptfs /usr/share/misc/magic werner/file> grep -i ecryptfs file-5.42/magic/ -rs werner/file> and data return by file 5.41 is not a valid test ... now it is the new which fits due random chance on Atari DEGAS Elite bitmap -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
