From what I read elsewhere, one of the ast components doesn't implement the handover interface correctly. However, there's a simple workaround, see below. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install on hardware with a video card served by the "ast" driver, for example the Aspeed AST1300 used on some ASUS server mainboards 2. boot (or run init 3 followed by init 5) Actual Results: X11 / kdm doesn't start; xorg error log says that the video driver "cannot operate" because "[t]he PCI device" xyz "has a kernel module claiming it". Expected Results: X11 / kdm starts Workaround: * add "nomodeset" to kernel parameters (this may be enough on its own but I also did the following) * add "ast" as a device in X11 / xorg config * remove plymouth (remove 1st search result in software management and then select removal of around 10-20 other packages) Note: the issue has been discussed in forums for older versions, for example http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-logi... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
