[Bug 727394] New: Unable to install with btrfs -- no packages / patterns for installation (KDE Desktop selected)

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727394 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727394#c0 Summary: Unable to install with btrfs -- no packages / patterns for installation (KDE Desktop selected) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mt@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I'm trying to install 12.1-RC1 on a Dell Latitude E6500, The initial try to find a network connection failed, because the e1000e NIC didn't have any link. Fixed it (plugged in cable) and continued -- no error visible after. Adopted the partition setup were: sdb2 for boot with ext4, /dev/lvm/suse121 for / with btrfs, /dev/lvm/home with ext4. After, the installation overview page showed "KDE Desktop", but no patterns and 0 bytes to install. Entering the Software-Selection, didn't showed any packages. Try to install, formats the partitions, but fails to chroot into the installed system -- well, it didn't installed anything. Bootloader, initrd failures -- aborted installation, going to repeat: - New installation with automatic configuration -> next - ntp with localtime, ok -> next - KDE-Desktop -> next - Create partition setup: - Custom - /dev/sda2 edit -> format ext4, mount as /boot -> next - /dev/lvm/suse121 edit -> format BtrFS, mount as / -> next - /dev/lvm/home edit -> format ext4, mount as /home -> next -> OK, accept Proposal looks OK, uses swap on /dev/sda5 -> next - Create user: - Disabled "User passwd for root" - Disabled "Autologin" -> next, yes - Enter root passwd -> next Install overview: same as before. But now I see, it writes: Partitioning proposal: - format /dev/sda2 (256MB) for /boot with ext4 - format /dev/lvm/home (16GB) for /home with ext4 - format /dev/lvm/suse121 with btrfs ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - use /dev/sda5 as swap Software: System type: KDE-Desktop Size of the packages to install: 0 B ==>> It does not say it will use /dev/lvm/suse121 for /-fs... Try to reenter partitioning: it shows it will use it as /-fs, OK. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727394 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727394#c2 --- Comment #2 from Marius Tomaschewski <mt@suse.com> 2011-11-01 12:46:35 UTC --- I've tried it again today -- while last time I've booted linux+initrd via grub that were installed in MBR, this time I booted them via PXE. Further, I've disabled the "automatic configuration" checkbox and voilà, now everything works fine until now -- the patterns are displayed correctly and the system installs the packages now as it should... This means, the reason seems to be either the missed NIC link (incompletely plugged in cable) [incompletely parsed repos?] or the autoconfigure checkbox. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

IMO an error should be reported that SW proposal was unable to find these requirements. Also Kernel.ycp tries to choose kernel-default, which is NOT available, but no error is reported to the user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Media is strange - provided just patterns but no packages - but valid. -- Moving to Ladislav for comment #5 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
