[Bug 565741] New: via velocity: frame errors. *lots* of frame errors.

http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=565741 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=565741#c0 Summary: via velocity: frame errors. *lots* of frame errors. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jnelson-suse@jamponi.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.5 I have a machine with 2 or somethings 3 NICs in it for testing. The machine has a Realtek 8169 (built-in), a Broadcom/tg3, and a via velocity. When using the r8169, I get hard locks under heavy load. That is another bug. When using the tg3, I get some (but not a lot) of frame errors. When using the via velocity, I get a *lot* of frame errors: RX packets:41581170 errors:122433 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:252290 This severely limits the card and causes all sorts of havoc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you test the kotd master kernel and see if you still see frame errors? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can if you like! Anyway, I'm not getting any messages, and very very few frame errors: RX packets:4751620 errors:6 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:891 Overall transfer rate isn't super, at 30MB/s sending, 44MB/s receiving (using an R8169 I see more like 109MB/s). Using 7200b jumbo frames: 37MB/s sending and 60MB/s receiving. Still, until the r8169 "hang on heavy load" issue goes away, I guess the via velocity is my card of the day. I don't suppose you want to deal with a *pair* of Broadcom/tg3 that also have lots of frame errors.... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please file a new bug and test the KOTD to see if it improves the situation. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
