I found a "Display" option in the BIOS. It had: Integrated, Discrete and Switchable as three options. The default was on Switchable. I changed it to "Discrete". Ever since that it is working fine. There is a help message in BIOS that said "Switchable" should be on only on Vista with driver support. So, that is probably the culprit. I booted with "Discrete" and ever since that, booting works fine. OTOH, I believe this issue could have been very easily detected if the messages were a little more verbose instead of: --) PCI:*(0:0:2:0) 8086:2a42:17aa:2113 rev 7 --) PCI: (0:1:0:0) 1002:95c4:17aa:210f rev 0 Do you think, we can make the log print Driver name or some such instead of this hexdump and print a more meaningful error dialog (or in /var/log/messages) that there is a conflict. What do you suggest ? VLC player also works fine. I did a glxinfo | grep direct and saw Yes as an answer. I believe this is enough proof for verifying 3d works. glxgears also works fine. Is this enough for testing 3d acceleration ? I believe the bug can be closed.
