REDETRESC\luizluca used the printer as \\impressao.tre-sc.gov.br\orion and TRESC-NET\luizluca used as \\impressao\orion (without DNS domain) And the logs shows: is_myname("impressao.tre-sc.gov.br") returns 0 is_myname("impressao") returns 1 TIP: remove the time info and compare "Samba logs related to bilbao printing (fails)" with "Samba logs related to bilbao printing (works)" with i.e. vimdiff. I tested in both cases using FQDN and single host name. FQDN always works. For 'impressao/orion', it also started to work after I did something that I don't know with the same printer in 'impressao.tre-sc.gov.br'. Other printers remained unfunctional for 'impressao' but works with 'impressao.tre-sc.gov.br'. The ldap configs really does nothing at all. It was used when this machine was in TRESC-NET but I think that it does nothing (as you said) when joined to REDETRESC. This machine uses unix users mapped by nss_ldap. The usermap script just removes the domain part of REDETRESC and TRESC-NET as both domains contains the same users. It also maps a third domain, TRE-SC, that uses username in the format TRE-SC/electoralNumber to the unix username by checking its electoralNumber in LDAP. The kerberos keytab is related to some ntlm_auth job that I'm developing: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2007-August/054689.html My samba tests uses a separated dir tree but the same config files. REDETRESC trust TRESC-NET 3. You have another version of samba on the same machine 4. The same configuration files and tdb files are used for both case. And, here comes the question. 1. There should be no FQDN in nt domain, why there is tre-sc.gov.br? I thought you must join you windows XP to your tests domain with full qualified domain name, and you actually didn't rejoin the nt domain. 2. why workgroup parameter is missing? 3. I think your configuration is totally messed up. I don't know how you nss is setup, And in lookup_name function, It always results in luizluca(I think that user probably in your ldap) 4. your pam configuration? I have no idea why seesion setup will call into pampass.c... Thus, If you cannot do a clean setup for windows nt domain and configure it correctly, I can do nothing about it. Correct but I found that the problem happens on both domains. 2. Yes but, again, I don't think this is related to domains. 3. It is in /tmp/samba and I just run ntlm_auth on it. That's why it uses the same config. I think that this should not affect the rest of the machine as this problem happens before it. 4. Yes but just for ntlm_auth. No other program is ever used. --- Answers 1. There is no FQDN in nt domain. The windows xp test client and the printer server impresaso were always joined to the nt domain REDETRESC. No FQDN. When the printer is added to the windows xp, I add using the address: //impressao/printer - it doesn't work //impressao.tre-sc.gov.br/printer - it works 2. Strange... it is in smb.conf domain master = No domain logons = No workgroup = REDETRESC netbios name = PALMAS netbios aliases = SOFTWARE REPOSITORIO IMPRESSAO server string = 3. luizluca is my user and it is provided by the LDAP as you guessed. Both user, TRESC-NET/luizluca and REDETRESC/luizluca are mapped to it. This seems right for me. 4. Pam config just auth users in LDAP. Specifically, when responding to GETPRINTERDATA RPC calls, samba respond with one packet, But windows NT respond with 2. And in samba case, the driver is Lexmark T520 (MS), in windows NT case, the driver is Lexmark T520 TRE. Give me some time to decode the RPC calls. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=294549#c30 Yang Bo <boyang@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|ASSIGNED |NEEDINFO Info Provider| |luizluca@tre-sc.gov.br --- Comment #30 from Yang Bo <boyang@novell.com> 2007-08-22 02:56:29 MST --- I state something wrong in comment #29. In windows case, the GETPRINTERDATA RPC call returns error WERR_BADFILE. I have no idea how XP can handle it correctly but failed with successful response. try: stop samba remove log files add "default devmode = no" in printers section set "log level = 999" in global section start samba and then invoke preview from your windows client and post the log files with the ntprinters.tdb under directory /var/lib/samba/ I think the probable reason would be that windows client messed the relationship between ChangeId and printer. ie, Windows Lexmark T520 driver treat \\FQDN\canes and \\shortname\canes as different printers, and that explains why FQDN worked but short name failed. that is to say, FQDN has valid configuration but shortname has invalid configuration. On the samba side, \\FQDN\canes and the \\shortname\canes is actually one printer, therefore, if windows try to get the configuration files of FQDN and shortname, the configuration should be the same and worked for both case. Window s probably get the configuration for FQDN and didn't get configuration for short name. probably, ChangeId returned, on one location windows think that it has got the configuration(because changeid is the same) which treat FQDN and short name as the same printer, but on another location, it treats FQDN and short name as different printers and then shortname has no valid configuration. Anyway, try the above configuration, force windows driver to generate devmode locally instead of using samba devmode and check if it works. set as needinfo again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Close the preview window. 2. on B, perform preview with shortname to see if it works. Pls try it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I used a win2k3 client to access as root and change the paper size. The windows XP still didn't work. But after I remove the printer on XP and readd it, it works as you pressumed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It might be windows wrongly handles the relationship between short name/FQDN and chingeID..... It is just guess, for now, I think I can do nothing but leave it here. But I'll keep it in mind and might discover something special in the printing protocol.
