[Bug 263861] New: USB Webcam does not work correctly since SuSE 10.0
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263861 Summary: USB Webcam does not work correctly since SuSE 10.0 Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: office@hantsch.co.at QAContact: qa@suse.de I have a little USB WEBCAM "LifeView Robocam". The camera is 100% ok, because it still works fine on some Linux systems. SuSE 8.0: Here the camera works perfectly. When I plug it into my SuSE 8.0, it works out of the box. A Video4linux device is created and I can see the camera picture very well with xawtv or similar. SuSE 10.0: The camera is detected, also a device is created, but the picture is doubled (two pictures side-by-side) and it is colored pink. Not really usable. Loaded driver OV511+. SuSE 10.2: Even topping the problems with 10.0. The camera is detected, but no video-device is created or working at all. All related programs tell that there is no video4linux device. In IRC #suse I was told that the driver is broken or not working with new kernels. Please fis as online update and - if possible - also for SuSE 10.0. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It is a plain install without any manual tweaking and/or creation of devices. Well, I have forgotten the USB-cam at my second site (where I actually would like to use it on SuSE 10.0), so I can do the next test after coming weekend but not earlier. In case that upgrading from 10.0 to openSuSE 10.2 is 100% safe and with no data loss (I have everything in / and no separate partition for /home ), I think about upgrading. Is this recommended? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Ad 1.) I created the file as you described. Then I unloaded the module with "modprobe -r ov511" and "modprobe ov511".
Good, attach dmesg output when you (try to) use the webcam and then remove the NEEDINFO flag using the checkbox below.
Ad 2.) Simply copy the executable from 10.0 to 10.2?
Yes, it doesn't have any exotic deps.
Ad 3.) No I did nothing of that. It is a plain install without any manual tweaking and/or creation of devices.
But in comment #0 you said that no device was created on 10.2? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Unfortunately the dmesg output didn't help much, seems like the driver functions are not called at all when you start xawtv. You run dmesg *after* starting xawtv, right? Anyway, I'll attach a testing package with a newer version of the driver (maintained out of tree at http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/), let's see if it helps somehow. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
