[Bug 539832] New: Laptop integrated microphone volume too low
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=539832 Summary: Laptop integrated microphone volume too low Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 7 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: ruchir.brahmbhatt@ecosmob.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-122.3 Firefox/3.5.2 I have opensuse 11.2 M7 on dell inspiron 1420 laptop. I use skype and other voip clients to call people. People often complain that they can barely hear me. I checked in mixer and all mic volume levels are set to max. I use laptop integrated mic(besides webcam). I have to keep laptop lid very close to mouth and speak loudly so that other person can hear me. This is odd as while talking, I can't read anything from laptop. My alsa-info is as attached. Please suggest how to improve the mic volume. With STAC9228 codec, the digital mic connection has no hardware volume control. That's why alsa-lib provides softvol plugin to amplify in software up to 30dB. With Skype, check "Digital" capture volume. Usually it's in 50%, corresponding to 0dB, which means no signal gain/attenuation changes in software. In your case, you can raise it. But, your alsa-info.sh shows that it's already 100%, i.e. +30dB, and this is already quite high enough. Note that if you choose "hw" PCM in your Skype setup, this "Digital" volume isn't applied because "hw" means the direct hardware access. Make sure that you choose "default" PCM instead. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
