It's hard to say. The symptom smells rather like the issue at decryption or authentication, not really a kernel problem.
Does the problem persist even if you disable plymouth, e.g. passing plymouth.enable=0 boot option?
Hello, plymouth was a good idea, though it turned out my swap cipher stopped working altogether.
