[Bug 765638] New: ipv6 (day) woes with named network not reachable although host with ipv4 address only
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=765638 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=765638#c0 Summary: ipv6 (day) woes with named network not reachable although host with ipv4 address only Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: abittner@abittner.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) AppleWebKit/536.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/19.0.1084.52 Safari/536.5 maybe due to the approaching ipv6 day and the global net approaching dualstack and parallel ipv4 and ipv6 deployment, I am having trouble to surf for example simple websites such as windowsupdate on windows clients which are using this opensuse 12.1 with named/squid deployed. I just logged into the 12.1 via ssh and did host windowsupdate.microsoft.com and host update.microsoft.com and it gave me errors and fail in /var/log/messages I get tons of named could not reach network errors all displaying ipv6 addresses of the involved target nameservers for apparently the microsoft.com domain in this case or many other target dns servers for all kinds of domains that the windows client on the local lan network tries to access. Unfortunately opensuse 12.1 with named/bind and squid is nowhere reliable any more with all this ipv6 causing enormous mess and problems :( restarting named/bind (rcnamed restart) or waiting quite a while does help. the windows clients on the inside are all ipv4 only (windows xp, no ipv6 stack at all installed) but I get these trouble on many other websites (firefox surfing some random website) as well and all point towards ipv6 trouble. why does an ipv4 only opensuse 12.1 linux host get into trouble when there are ipv6 replies from the outside world. the whole situation is very unreliable and not robust at all :( Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. really no ipv6 in use at all, ifconfig, ip route, route -n show zero ipv6 stuff, not even these link local, local or whatever all those technical names are exactly Jun 6 10:50:29 tuxbox named[4425]:
