[Bug 1218104] New: Grub boot error with Xen - "null src bitmap in grub_video_create_scaled."
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1218104 Bug ID: 1218104 Summary: Grub boot error with Xen - "null src bitmap in grub_video_create_scaled." Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Leap 15.5 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: jaan@basesoft.se QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- openSUSE Leap 15.5, with Xen hypervisor does not boot, gives error: "error: ../../grub-core/video/bitmap_scale.c:42:null src bitmap in grub_video_create_scaled." I have removed all the obvious things e.g. splash with a grub cmd command line options only containing: "preempt=full mitigations=auto" The ordinary kernel boots without any problems. It also boots with "splash=silent quiet" i.e. video output on the display. It was a new install a time ago of 15.4 (did not work there either. I hoped it would go away in 15.5) and was later upgraded to now 15.5. It is an efi boot (uefi bios) from sdb1 /dev/sdb1 2048 1435647 1433600 700M ef EFI (FAT-12/16/32) Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. The computer has booted openSUSE with Xen in earlier openSUSE version, e.g. from 13.X, 42.X. And run VM guests. I also have done diff -r of /boot/grub2 with another box with same configuration that works. No significant diffs. The only "historic" diff is that that the working Xen computer was upgraded starting from 13.X to now 15.5, e.g. NO new install of 15.X. Both use btrfs, have the same boot part sizes/layout, but the problem Xen box has boot part as "msdos" and the upgraded one "gpt" ... The hardware of the boxes differ however... I have searched the web and noticed some others having similar problems, but found no solutions yet. Does anyone have any idea? Why does ordinary 15.5 without Xen boot and not with Xen? Where might the "missing" bitmap be mentioned in error:? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
