[Bug 500384] New: Latest HAL update kills suspend to disk
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=500384 Summary: Latest HAL update kills suspend to disk Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: amantia@kde.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=289551) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=289551) syslog User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.2; Linux) KHTML/4.2.71 (like Gecko) Suspend to disk cease to work on my machine after some updates and I found the problem is that hald-addon-storage doesn't exit, it cannot even be killed. I suspected the latest HAL update (0.5.12-10.13.1), and indeed reverting HAL to the 0.5.12-10.1 made suspend to disk work again. With the latest hal this is what I got: - suspend starts and it is aborted, powersave -U returns "int32 255". - there are a lot of calltraces printed to the syslog, see attachment. I also have this often in the log, might be related as I don't see them with the "old" hal package: May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: limiting speed to PIO4 May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO4 May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:12:43 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO4 May 2 14:12:44 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: ata5.00: limiting speed to PIO3 May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:12:58 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:12:59 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO3 May 2 14:12:59 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete May 2 14:13:29 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:13:29 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:13:29 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:13:29 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:13:29 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:13:29 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:13:30 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO3 May 2 14:13:30 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: ata5.00: limiting speed to PIO0 May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:14:00 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:14:01 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO0 May 2 14:14:01 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete May 2 14:14:31 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:14:31 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:14:31 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:14:31 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:14:31 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:14:31 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:14:32 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO0 May 2 14:14:32 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete May 2 14:15:02 stein kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen May 2 14:15:02 stein kernel: ata5.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 May 2 14:15:02 stein kernel: cdb 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 May 2 14:15:02 stein kernel: res 40/00:02:00:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) May 2 14:15:02 stein kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } May 2 14:15:02 stein kernel: ata5: soft resetting link May 2 14:15:03 stein kernel: ata5.00: configured for PIO0 May 2 14:15:03 stein kernel: ata5: EH complete ata5 is a DVD-ROM: ata5: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0xfc08 irq 15 ata5.00: ATAPI: JLMS XJ-HD163, GH5Y, max UDMA/33 ata5.00: configured for UDMA/33 ata5.00: ACPI cmd ef/03:42:00:00:00:a0 filtered out ata5.00: configured for UDMA/33 ata5.00: ACPI cmd ef/03:42:00:00:00:a0 filtered out ata5.00: configured for UDMA/33 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The problem actually seems to appear only when I don't have a medium in the DVD drive. hald-addon-storage keeps polling the drive, the kernel gives the above error, this halts hald-addon-storage, suspend cannot end it, so the whole suspend is aborted. There is a workaround, booting with "noapic" seems to help. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
